U.S. tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese-made clothing have caused a dramatic drop in exports. In May 2025, U.S. apparel imports from China plummeted to $556 million, the lowest in over two decades. To avoid these costs, global retailers are shifting orders to Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, and Mexico, where demand for apparel production surged by 29% during the same period.
