China’s top political publications are raising concerns that efforts to crack down on excessive government banquets may be hurting the country’s food and beverage sector.
In May, new national rules were introduced to promote frugality within party and government departments. These regulations banned high-end meals, cigarettes, and alcohol during official functions. But now, state media outlets say local officials may be enforcing the rules too aggressively.
